Photographing Norwegian Waterbirds!

by | Dec 28, 2023 | Bird Trips

Last week, I had a cool chance to see some amazing waterbirds up close. I’m talking about ducks, seagulls, cormorants, and even a sneaky little Common Moorhen hiding in the marshes. To get some good shots of these birds, I had to get creative with how I took my photos.

Turns out, the best way to snap a great picture of these birds is to get down to their level. So, there I was, lying flat on the ground, getting dirty and probably looking a bit funny, but it was totally worth it. When you’re right down there with them, you see things differently – like you’re in their world. It’s not just about getting a good photo; it’s about seeing things from their perspective.

It wasn’t the most comfortable position to be in, lying on the ground with my camera, but it did the trick. The photos came out looking really natural and way more interesting. It’s like you’re hanging out with the birds, seeing what they see.

This whole experience was a blast and a bit of a workout too. Lying on the ground and waiting for the perfect moment to take a photo takes patience, but when you get that awesome shot, it’s so rewarding. It’s a cool reminder of how much fun and surprising wildlife photography can be. I’m stoked to keep trying this out and see what other neat photos I can get.
